Protecting Our Greenbelt – Update from Iain

Dear Residents,

Please see below the latest update on the draft “Places for Everyone” proposals at the link below (if the link doesn’t work when you click on it – just copy and paste it into your web browser) :-

https://www.bury.gov.uk/placesforeveryone.

These proposals replace what was the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework that was previously rejected. Please be assured that your Tottington Councillors continue to oppose any proposals that include building on our precious Greenbelt land.

Since 2017, we have consistently made our opposition known to the ear-marking of the site at Walshaw Brook to build some 1,250 new houses. The new document “Places for Everyone” unfortunately continues to include this site in it’s draft proposals.

The “Places for Everyone” document is currently going through some key Council meetings in the next few weeks (see the timetable through the above link). If it is approved then there will be a period of consultation open to all residents and key stakeholders. If this is the case, then we ask as many residents as possible to join us Tottington Councillors in registering our opposition to these plans. We understand that you will be able to take part in it at the Bury link above or at:-

If you have any further questions at this time regarding this process you can e-mail planningandhousing@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk.

We will of course continue to keep you all updated.

Best Wishes

Cllr Iain Gartside (also on behalf of Cllr Yvonne Wright and Cllr Luis McBriar)

Working Hard for Tottington, Walshaw and Affetside all year round.
