Tottington Ward Update

The controversial application for houses at the rear of Victoria Street was approved in November. I voted against this as I believe it to be an over development of the site.

I have reported a street light needing repair in Ryecroft Ave and assured this will be undertaken very soon.

Also another street light needing repair on the pathway from Chestnut Avenue to Bury Road.

Arranged assisted dustbin service for an elderly resident. Contact me if you too have a disability and you need help in getting your dustbin out for collection and returned to your property.

Requested traffic calming measures on Harwood Road, ongoing.

Reported tree damaged in a storm on Booth Street and requested it is inspected to ensure it is safe.

Along with many Tottington residents I attended the public meeting on the future of Island Lodge. Options were discussed and we now are awaiting a report for a way forward.

I have attended sessions each Monday morning at the Blind Society and a Board Meeting.

I waitressed at the Christmas Craft Fair at Ramsbottom Civic Hall and have helped with a fundraiser in Bury Tesco last week and chatted to many Tottington residents.

I was invited to look around the offices of Bury Citizens Advice Bureau as I have joined their Board of Trustees.

As usual I have been extremely busy with Library business over the past few weeks. We continue to hold weekly committee meetings and each Thursday is my day as a Committee member to be present from 9.30 to 5.30. I work alongside volunteers undertaking all sorts of tasks from cleaning, sweeping leaves and preparing for fundraising events.

Challenges with an old building are the norm and last week we had flooding in the cellar which we are in the process of investigating with a drains company.

I organised a Call my Bluff Wine Tasting Night in November and we raised over £1000 !

Our 3 Day Craft Fayre was a big success and we hope to hold 2 Craft Fayres next year. Early in the year we shall have a programme of events planned for the year and hope they are well supported again. Details will be available on leaflets in the library and social media

I am encouraging local residents to support the new business which has opened in the Library last month The Tottington Tea Room. We have 4 tenants now in various parts of the building and rents all help towards the annual £22.000 required to operate YOUR library.

In January there will be a promotion with a FREE book with every BREW so please call in. Check out the Tea Room menu either in the external notice board when passing or on our facebook page The Tottington Centre.

I have organised a Luxury Gift Wrapping service which is operating each day in the library should you want help with wrapping your gifts for a donation. Raffle tickets are on sale for a fantastic hamper which shall be drawn on the 16th December so please call in and support.

Finally, it was my pleasure to see the Library committee recently present an award to Matthew Miller entitled “Contribution by a young volunteer in the community”.
