- 23/08/17 – Update from Yvonne
Firstly the details of Ward case work which I have dealt with since my last update are as follows;
At long last my calls for improvements to the shocking potholes and road surface of Holly Street have at last brought success!
Do report any bad potholes to US and we can report them immediately.
I have reported breaches of Planning conditions ,not straightforward and unfortunately it’s a very long winded process with perpetrators being given further time to comply with conditions.
Fly tipping at the rear of Harwood Crescent reported.
Gates at Sycamore Rd play area reported for repair.
Loose kerbstones on Rosewood Ave reported for repair.
Investigated rumours of Planning application for houses at the rear of Avalon Close….no applications submitted, just rumours.
Continue to spend Monday morning volunteering at Bury Society for The Blind . I am involved in organising the annual fundraising dinner, a 007 Bond Night in October, tickets £35 .also Planning the annual Christmas Fair in November.
After 9 years as a Trustee ,I have been appointed Vice Chair of COMMUNIC8TE ( The Deaf Society) and keen to develop a fundraising strategy along with the newly appointed Volunteer / Fundraising Coordinator. I sit on several sub committees at this charity and proud of how the charity has progressed over recent years. I am helping on a car boot stall for the charity on Bank Holiday Monday and also now have collected over 12 boxes of prizes prepared and ready for a gigantic Tombola which will be held in the autumn.I am constantly collecting unwanted gifts…..if you have anything to donate, please contact me.
I have supported a fundraising event for the Hospice ” Gardeners Question Time ” and am also selling tickets for a Ladies Lunch And Fashion Show again for the Hospice at Greenmount Golf Club on 21 st September, tickets are £25.
I have attended the monthly meetings of the Planning Control Committee and attended the annual Outcomes Tour when we visit approved applications and learn from our decisions.
There are no contentious planning applications come to committee over recent months in our Ward .
The biggest and all consuming issue I have dealt with over recent months I have left to the last as I have much to say on the subject of Tottington Library.
We have posted information on our blog, Facebook ,circulated newsletters both by email and hard copy and fortunate to at last have gained some publicity in the local press….that we have won in our campaign and the Council have now agreed to Volunteers operating the Library ,that is once the Council cease to operate it.
Initially we were informed that this would take place this month August .This then changed to October 1 st which I think is doubtful as there is much to progress and we are waiting for information and details of a lease from the Council.
We have been busy over the months fundraising and you may have spotted our stall at The Big Day Out with our signs SAVE OUR LIBRARY.
We have held a Wine Tasting evening, a quiz night, bag packing and street stalls. We have received a £200 donation from Tottington High School and £500 from Walshaw Sports Club.
We are researching and visiting other volunteer operated libraries . We are exploring opportunities of renting part of the Library commercially as a cafe.We have contacted groups who use the Library rooms and adding to the list of local people who have offered to volunteer.
We have had great support from local people in donations in our collection boxes in village shops but unfortunately one was stolen last week.
Future events are planned with another quiz night in October and a Lancashire Night in November…donations of Black Puddings and Lancashire Cheese for this on the way plus a donation of £250 from Dunsters Farm.
Our committee consists of a small group who have met weekly for the past six months and given much more of their time to progress our mission to operate the Library.
We are exploring funding opportunities. Our technical requirements are being investigated. All things “Marketing ” are being worked on presently.
We Tottington Councillors recorded a lighthearted ” rap” about the Library appealing for donations and volunteers, It went viral on Facebook with many thousands viewing it…..the follow up is in the making !
Thank you to all those who have supported the campaign to save the Library…it’s a massive challenge and this will only happen with the support of local people….it can be done !
