Update From Cllr Yvonne Wright

Yvonne’s Blog Update 22nd Nov 15More Variety than Heinz 57 !

It’s been a very busy month so far with lots of Ward Cases on diverse issues such as:

Housing Benefits for mature students.

Funding Enquiries for local communities.

Flooding on Harwood Road and blocked gullies.

Requests for disabled ramp.

Social Services safeguarding issues

Checking that “Developers” of new builds have complied with conditions in Planning Approvals.

Resolving issues for a locked gated access to Kirklees Trail at rear of Laburnham Ave.

Again requesting when the long awaited 20 signs are to be erected in various locations in the Ward Scobel St, Moorside Rd and Wellbank St areas.

Pushing for the long awaited 40mph signage for the stretch of Turton Rd.

Receiving the disappointing news that yet again our request for a crossing on Bury Rd/Market St has been refused even though a crossing is to be introduced on Walshaw Road near the x Elton Cop site (which is just outside our Ward). We are informed this is due to the Planning agreement and the developer has funded this. So is this about who will pay rather than what is safe??? Can we hear your views please ?

I have attended meetings as follows:

Sat on an interview panel at Comminic8te (The Deaf Society)

Attended an “Events” meeting at the Blind Society, planning future fundraising events.

Blind Society Board Meeting.

Ramsbottom , Tottington and North Manor Township Forum

Communic8te Board Meeting

A meeting with Council Officers to discuss parking problems on Kirklees St and the condition of Acresbrook Walk Boothway. I expressed the view that Bury Council has in my opinion neglected maintaining Boothway over many years and yet Council Tax has not in any way been reduced !

I attended a Shopmobility Board Meeting

Regarding my volunteering work, I have been busy promoting events with press articles and social media, for more info on my involvements with events I am now on “Facebook”.

I have given 2” talks” re my experiences over the years with my business The Lancashire Dining Club which is relevant as it was to many local people living in the Ward, namely the good ladies of Tottington Townswomen’s Guild and Tottington and Greenmount Rotary Club. Great support and a few laughs from my anecdotes.

I organised a meeting for a Charity Christmas Fair I am coordinating on Saturday 5th December at Bury United Reform Church when charities will have a variety of stalls plus the church has a superb cafe with a big selection of homemade cakes.

Last Sunday I volunteered at Ramsbottom Civic Hall for The Blind Societies annual Craft and Gift Fair, we were very busy in our cafe with our cakes too, always a winner!

I gave a demonstration on Luxury Gift Wrapping to ladies of Affetside and they kindly donated £43 to The Blind Society funds. I also recruited a new “Wrapper” for our 2 week long fundraising “LUXURY GIFT WRAPPING” event which will start on the 9th-24th Dec in a shop unit next to Yates and Suddel in The Millgate. More volunteers wanted to wrap gifts, do contact me if you have a few hours to spare.

This weekend I have organised a Tombola again in The Millgate to raise funds for a day trip for people living in the borough with severe and enduring mental illness. Thank you to those of you who generously supported this. We raised £900.00!!!
